March 11th AfterHours Reflection (Seizing Your Divine Moment – Just Do Something!)

11 03 2007

Tonight Randy talked to us about the “divine moments” (based on an Erwin McManus book), the moments in which we have a choice whether or not to take part in God’s adventure, that fill our days. He suggested that we often miss our chance to seize these moments because we’re either too busy or because we’re looking backward at our past (see Philippians 3:12-14). Randy went on to say that we would find more of God’s adventure in our journeys if we were to slow down and let go of the past, that sometimes we need to just do something.

We then took at look at 1 Samuel 14, where Jonathan made the seemingly reckless decision to take on an entire Philistine outpost (over 20 men) with just one sword and the help of an armor bearer. His rationale in doing this was that if he would just take action, “perhaps the Lord would act on [their] behalf.” In closing, Randy challenged us to be more attentive to the divine moments we are presented with every day and to seize them. Please share your recent successes and failures in doing this in a comment.
