After a rockin’ night of karaoke and costumes last weekend, we have another event planned for this week. Be there!

We’ll be meeting up on Friday night at the Nickerson’s for taco salad and autumn hijinks! Bring your bathing suit for a dip in the hot tub. The fun starts at 6:00! You will find a map here.

The latest Uprising Email (7/9/08)

9 07 2008

We’re kickin’ off summer by going Unplugged. Hang out low-key style with other Uprisers tomorrow night (Thursday, July 10th) from 6 to 9pm-ish (just depends on how much fun we’re having). Bring your swimsuits (there’s a pool) and an appetite (there will be pizza this go-around– note: there will always be food at Unplugged. It’s just what we do.) We meet at 20985 SE Lansing Lane in Damascus, OR 97089. Lost? Call Chris at 503-680-8705.

(Tomorrow, July 10th is also Pastor Randy’s birthday, and he’s in Alaska this week teaching at Kokrine Hills Bible Camp! Send him birthday greetings at randy@coolchurch.com.)

The next Unplugged will be on Thursday, July 24th and it will be the UNPLUGGED NOT TO MISS! We’re catching the patriotic, lightin’-the-big-torch fever, and will have our own Uprising Olympics! More info to come; but seriously, it’s the event of the summer. Well, at least for July. 😉

Also on the docket, the amazing Nethanel Pokorny (the only guy featured in attached photo taken in Nicaragua on our mission trip last Spring Break!) is turning 21, and his folks want to throw him a fantastic surprise party… and if you know him — or don’t yet! — and want to hang out with fun people, you are welcome and invited. The details: this Friday, July 11th at 7pm at the Pokorny House: 2802 SW Willow Parkway. How long will this party go? As long as people are there! Food and dessert will be served! Yeah!  Got questions, call his mom at 503-661-6809.

And OF COURSE, don’t miss out on Uprising this Saturday night at 6pm at the Parkrose Campus (4536 NE 116th Portland, OR 97220)… Chris Giusto will be teaching on Jesus the Miracleworker! Don’t miss it. We miss you when you are not there. (Really. We do.)

Well, I’m off to enjoy the sun (hope you are too!),

Coming soon: My Father & I… special dinner for young women

12 05 2008

My father and I… fight.

My father and I… can’t talk about deep things.

My father and I… love each other.

My father and I… compromise

My father and I…

We want to invite the young women of our church (from high school through mid-twenties) to attend My Father and I… A fun & fabulous family-style dinner for young women with guest speakers Greg Strannigan & his daughters sharing about dads (how we should talk to them without fighting, crying, and avoiding), being women, uncovering what the bible says about unrealistic expectations and God as our Father.

Our hope is that these young women will learn the importance of the relationship with their fathers (both God and their earthly dad), even if it is broken or absolutely amazing. This will also be a great opportunity for them to form relationships with other strong women, ask questions, and seek wisdom in their relationships.

The dinner is Tuesday, May 20th at 7 p.m. at the Happy Valley Campus, and the cost is $10. Students can sign up during Unseen, Uprising, or at Guest Services. Space is limited; so don’t delay. Email cori@coolchurch.com with any questions or to have your name added to the list.

Uprising Winter Advance Response

26 02 2008

Last weekend was amazing. Leave us a comment and let us know how God spoke to your heart during the advance.

January 23rd “Wild Women Wednesday” (the first one!)

24 01 2008

Well, Uprising ladies, our first “Wild Women Wednesday” was last night and I rate it a success! Ten silly girls and a movie about a fav convo topic: weddings!  We watched the movie 27 Dresses, and, if I can speak for the group (which I am), we all enjoyed the movie (some with plans to re-watch it soon!)– and going to a movie together– a lot! As Sheri E emailed me today, “It was fun hearing the giggles from the other side of the row…. We need to plan our next one!”

If you weren’t able to make it last night, we promise to have many more movie nights and other fun activities in the future!

Now if you were able to make it last night (and are identified below), let us know what you liked about the movie– and if also were singing Benny and the Jets in your head all night!

Uprising Winter Advance!

14 01 2008

You’ve been hearing about it since September and the time to sign up has finally arrived! Here are some key details:

  • When: Friday, February 22nd through Sunday, February 24th. We’ll be heading up the mountain in two groups, one on Friday afternoon (2PM) for people who are going to do some skiing/snowboarding and everyone else on Friday evening (6PM behind the church).
  • Who: The first 50 Uprisers to sign up.
  • How(and How Much): You can get your name on the list by leaving a comment here and letting everyone know you’re on board. The registration fee is $50 and is due by February 10th. If we still have room after the 10th, the cost will be $60. That fee covers transportation, five meals (Saturday breakfast through Sunday lunch) and scores you a t-shirt.
  • Why: The weekend will be an amazing opportunity to build relationships and community within our Uprising family. It’ll be the perfect combination of play, relaxation, and growth.

We call this weekend away an “advance” with Matthew 11:12 in mind, since we desire to move forward with God’s kingdom. The theme for our time together will be choices and we’ll spend some time seeking God in the Old Testament.

Jump on board and set the trend by leaving a comment.
